The Auckland Festival of Photography is proud to present and exhibit a new group residency project within the Strand Arcade.

The Common Room is an eight-week group open-studio that will take place in a vacant shop space within the Strand Arcade. Themed around the projects initiated by the 2024 Exhibitors Micro-Grant award recipients, the residency showcases a diverse range of work across many different genres of Photography, as well as the process and objects/props that underpin each artists’ photographic practices. Whether their projects are in their infancy, or has already been concluded, this is an opportunity to develop, reiterate, showcase, and garner conversation around the artists’ work, as well as build new connections with like-minded peers and audiences in the heart of the Auckland CBD.

Come down to the Strand Arcade to meet our artists throughout May, and witness the planning process of a new exhibition commencing early June. The vacant shop space becomes a common studio – a place where work can be shared, produced, curated, and installed in-situ. We open up the production of a group exhibition to the people.

Thank you to our participating Artists – Kate Rampling, Jiongxin Peng, Rukus Photo Group, Beatrice Carlson, and Judy Stokes – as well as the ‘The Good News for You’ Initiative conducted by the Auckland City Council Activation scheme for enabling this project.
